Critic tasting note: "This Australian beauty opens with lean and lovely raspberry aromas which blossom into a fairly rich middle, picking up black-cherry and blackberry fruit along the way. The finish is layered and balanced." - 88/100, Wine Enthusiast
Penfolds Bin 389 is the trademark Australian red wine. Affectionately known as 'Baby Grange' or 'Poor Mans Grange', Bin 389 was the wine that helped to build Penfolds' solid reputation with wine drinkers around the world. A magnificent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from the very best regions and vineyards available to Peter Gago and his team, the robust nature of the Cabernet grape give structure and body to the wine while the opulent Shiraz fruit provides suppleness and intensity. With 2008 delivering what many thought to be the perfect vintage, this is the 389 you need to own.
Producer tasting notes: "COLOUR Deep red. NOSE Dark chocolate, plummy, loamy aromas with some demi-glace, mint notes. PALATE The palate is well focused with lovely strength and density of fruit. There are still some primary blackberry characters intertwined with evolved chocolaty, meaty demi-glace fruit and savoury, malty oak. It finished with pronounced sappy firmness. Very strong, muscular wine with plenty of fruit volume." - Penfolds
