The 1993 Penfolds Bin 95 Grange 1.5L Magnum is a magnificent large-format release of Australia's most iconic wine, presented in its original wooden box. Produced by Penfolds, Grange is the benchmark of Australian fine wine, renowned for its extraordinary concentration, complexity, and ability to evolve over decades. The magnum format offers even greater ageing potential, allowing the wine to mature more slowly and gracefully than a standard bottle.
The 1993 vintage is a classic expression of Grange, blending 86% Shiraz and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit sourced from premium South Australian vineyards including Barossa Valley and Coonawarra. Matured for 18 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads, it combines the richness of Shiraz with the structure and definition of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing blackcurrant, plum, fig, liquorice, malt, and dark chocolate, interwoven with cedar, mocha, spice, black olive, and subtle earthy complexity. With over three decades of bottle age, tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and savoury nuances continue to emerge while the wine retains remarkable vitality. The palate is powerful yet beautifully integrated, offering concentrated layers of blackberry, plum, liquorice, cocoa, and spice, supported by fine-grained tannins and exceptional length. The higher Cabernet Sauvignon component contributes freshness, structure, and a long, persistent finish.
The magnum format has allowed the 1993 Grange to evolve at a slower pace than the standard 750ml bottle, and many collectors regard it as still having considerable life ahead. While drinking superbly today with careful double decanting, well-stored magnums are expected to continue developing gracefully through the 2030s and beyond.
