The 1993 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is a rare and historically significant release from one of Australia's most celebrated vineyards. Produced by Henschke, Hill of Grace is sourced from a tiny, single vineyard in Eden Valley planted to pre-phylloxera Shiraz vines dating back to the 1860s. Widely regarded as one of the world's greatest Shiraz wines, Hill of Grace combines extraordinary longevity with unparalleled vineyard character.
The 1993 vintage in Eden Valley produced wines of elegance, structure, and exceptional ageing capability. Three decades of careful bottle maturation have allowed this wine to evolve into a remarkably complex and nuanced expression while retaining the balance and vitality that define great Hill of Grace.
Hand-harvested fruit from the historic vineyard was traditionally vinified and matured in oak hogsheads before extended bottle ageing. The result is a wine that speaks eloquently of both place and time, showcasing the unique character of this legendary site.
Now fully mature, the bouquet is profoundly complex, revealing layers of dried blackberry, black cherry, plum compote, and fig intertwined with notes of cedar, leather, tobacco leaf, exotic spice, sage, dried herbs, earth, and subtle game. Additional tertiary nuances of truffle, forest floor, and aged balsamic emerge with aeration, adding remarkable depth and intrigue.
The palate is elegant yet persistent, with beautifully resolved tannins, savoury complexity, and seamless balance. The fruit has evolved into a harmonious tapestry of mature flavours, supported by fresh acidity and a remarkably long, graceful finish. Unlike many wines of this age, well-stored bottles of 1993 Hill of Grace can still display impressive vitality and structure.
