The 1990 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz is a mature Coonawarra release from one of Penfolds' classic regional Bin wines. Created in 1962, Bin 128 was designed as a cool-climate counterpoint to the richer Bin 28 Shiraz, highlighting Coonawarra's ability to produce structured, elegant and savoury Shiraz with regional definition.

Vintage & Winemaking

Made from 100% Shiraz and matured in French oak, the 1990 Bin 128 sits within the period where the label had moved toward a more refined oak regime to better express Coonawarra's pepper, spice, fruit and structure. This mature bottle offers both drinking interest and historical value within the Penfolds Bin 128 lineage.

A classic Bin 128 with ripe blackberry, earthy and panforte aromas, chalky firm tannins, fruit sweetness and underlying savoury notes.

Tasting Notes

Medium-deep crimson. Aromas of blackberry, raspberry, graphite and demi-glace are layered with leafy tobacco and celery leaf notes. The palate is concentrated and savoury, showing blackberry, raspberry, demi-glace and meaty flavours, with fine chalky tannins and a supple, sweet-fruited mid-palate.

Food Pairing

Pair with roast lamb, duck, game, mushroom dishes, braised beef or aged hard cheeses.

Cellaring Potential
