Overview
The 1990 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is a mature release of one of Australia's most revered single-vineyard wines. Sourced from the historic Hill of Grace vineyard in Eden Valley, this wine comes from dry-grown, own-rooted Shiraz vines, including some of the oldest productive vines in the world.
Hill of Grace takes its name from the nearby Gnadenberg Lutheran Church, overlooking the vineyard at the historic village of Parrot Hill. The 1990 vintage is one of the great older releases, combining mature complexity with the depth, perfume and elegance that define this iconic Henschke bottling.
Vintage & Winemaking
The 1990 vintage was an exceptional season, with good winter rain, a perfect spring and a mild summer providing excellent ripening conditions. It produced both large yields and outstanding quality, regarded by Henschke as one of the strongest seasons for two to three decades.
The fruit was harvested on 15 April and matured in French and American oak hogsheads prior to blending and bottling. The wine is 100% Shiraz from the Hill of Grace single vineyard.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Dark crimson with brick-red hues.
Nose: Sweet, concentrated dark plum fruit with underlying blackberry, leather, five spice and oak nuances.
Palate: Plush ripe plum and blackcurrant fruit combine with layers of fine velvety tannins. Complex, balanced and elegant, with savoury mature detail and impressive length.
Food Pairing
Pair with roast beef, slow-braised beef cheeks, roast lamb, venison, game meats or aged hard cheeses.
Cellaring Potential
Drinking window: 1995-2040. This mature Hill of Grace remains within its long drinking window, though provenance, storage history and bottle condition are especially important at this age.

Henschke is one of Australia's most important family-owned wine estates, with a history in Eden Valley dating back to 1868. Hill of Grace is its most famous wine, first made in 1958 by Cyril Henschke and sourced from the ancient Shiraz vines surrounding the historic Gnadenberg church.
