About This Wine
Penfolds Grange stands as Australia’s most iconic red wine, renowned for its powerful structure, immense longevity and multi-regional blending philosophy. The 1986 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest Grange releases, combining richness, depth and remarkable ageing potential. Crafted from fully ripe, intensely flavoured Shiraz with a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage showcases exceptional concentration and a classic Grange profile of dark fruit, smoky American oak and muscular tannins.

Vintage Notes
A mild and relatively dry growing season followed by stable harvest conditions allowed grapes to ripen evenly. The vintage is recognised for producing wines of outstanding depth, precision and balance.
Ageing
Matured for 20 months in new American oak hogsheads, contributing to the hallmark Grange character of mocha, smoke, dark chocolate and sweet oak spice.

Nose
Powerful aromas of mocha, cedar, liquorice and smoky oak. Notes of dark berries and malty complexity.
Palate
Rich, intense and layered, offering mocha, dark chocolate, dark berry fruit, herbs and dense ripe tannins. The structure is firm and chalky, leading to a superbly long, flavour-packed finish. A monumental Grange with decades of life ahead.
