Vineyard
Lafite’s vineyards sit atop Pauillac’s most celebrated gravel rises, with deep gravel and limestone soils that encourage exceptional drainage and contribute to the château’s signature graphite and cedar profile. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend, supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Strict parcel selection ensures only the most refined fruit forms the grand vin.
Vintage
1983 was a warm and dry vintage across the Left Bank, marked by excellent late-season conditions that delivered ripe Cabernet Sauvignon with good tannin structure. Though overshadowed by 1982, the best estates crafted wines of elegance, balance, and long-term ageing potential — and Lafite performed superbly.
Tasting Notes
The 1983 Château Lafite Rothschild shows a beautiful garnet hue with a mature, amber-tinged rim. The bouquet is highly aromatic, offering redcurrant, cedar, violets, graphite, tobacco, and earthy complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and exquisitely balanced — displaying refined red fruit, savoury notes, and Lafite’s hallmark minerality. Fine, resolved tannins lead into a long, graceful, cedar-laced finish. A classic, beautifully evolved Lafite at full maturity.
